Painting for a Cause: Then and Now
My path as a contemporary abstract artist has always been driven by one belief: that art heals. Nearly a decade ago, I donated my painting Blue Melody from my Visions of Color series to A Window Between Worlds, a non-profit dedicated to providing healing through creative expression to survivors of violence and trauma. That donation was for their ArtWorks for Healing fundraiser gala, a celebration of AWBW’s 25th anniversary.

Looking back, that moment planted a seed. It confirmed something I already felt deeply: art is not just decoration. It is medicine.
What AWBW Does
A Window Between Worlds has been offering creative healing workshops to survivors of violence and trauma since 1991. In that time, nearly 200,000 people have found a safe, creative space to process what words cannot always reach. The Paintings That Speak to Healing
When I chose Blue Melody for the AWBW donation, I did not choose randomly. I chose it because it carried the energy of what I wanted to give: something calm, something open, something that asked nothing of the viewer except to feel.
These are the works I create when I am most connected to the healing intention behind my practice. Here are a few pieces that carry that same spirit:
Dream of Water
Water has always been my metaphor for emotional release. In Dream of Water, the layers of blue and silver move the way grief moves: slowly, in waves, never in a straight line. This painting is available for collectors and interior designers seeking art that brings stillness into a space.
Between Tides
Between Tides was created in a moment of transition, between one chapter and the next. The fluid forms reflect the push and pull of change, the quiet space between letting go and beginning again. It is a painting about resilience.
Deep Space
There is something profoundly healing about looking up. Deep Space invites the viewer into a vast, luminous darkness. It is the kind of quiet that only comes when the noise of the world finally falls away. This is the feeling I wanted to give AWBW’s community: the feeling that there is more space inside you than you know.
Radiant Blue
Blue is scientifically proven to slow the heart rate. Radiant Blue was created with that intention: a large-scale work designed to fill a room with calm. The fluid pour carries the energy of the Pacific, and the square format creates a sense of perfect balance. This is the kind of painting that belongs in a healing space.
Why This Still Matters to Me in 2026
Since that first donation, my relationship with healing through art has deepened in ways I could not have anticipated. I spent five years as a caregiver for my fiancé as he battled dementia. During that time, my own art became my survival strategy. It was not a product to sell or a canvas to exhibit. It was a way to move grief out of my chest.
That experience led me to become a certified Art4Healing® facilitator. It led me to open my new studio in Laguna Beach. And it brought me back to the same truth I discovered when I first connected with AWBW: art heals, and healing through creative expression belongs to everyone, not just artists.
My Mission Today
At my Laguna Beach studio, I now offer Art4Healing® workshops open to anyone regardless of artistic skill. No brushes, no rules, no inner critic. Just color, expression, and the freedom to feel.
As a certified Art4Healing® facilitator, I create a safe space where students use color and expression to process their own emotions. No diagnosis, no clinical setting. Just art doing what art has always done.
I also offer mobile services throughout Orange County, bringing workshops directly to caregivers, residential facilities, and support groups. Because sometimes the people who need healing the most are the ones who cannot leave the house to find it.

Why I Believe in Creative Healing
I truly believe in the power of art for mental health in Laguna Beach and beyond, not just for artists, but for everyone. We all need a safe space to express what we cannot always say in words. Sometimes it is easier to put your feelings on a canvas and let the colors explain what you are not yet ready to speak.
Much like an athlete gets into a zone, creating art helps quiet the mind. You stop thinking about the stresses of everyday life. You start feeling. That shift from thinking to feeling is where the healing begins.
As Maya Angelou said:
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
That is what this work does. It makes people feel seen, heard, and less alone.
