The Vision of a Focal Point
When I stand before a canvas as expansive as 60 x 48 inches, I am not just looking at a surface; I am looking at a portal. In my featured fluid art installation, currently at Artspace Warehouse and titled Blossom, I wanted to create a true focal point for the modern soul. In the world of contemporary design, we often hear about ‘statement pieces,’ but for me, a painting must be more than a statement. It must be a sanctuary.
Blossom is a fluid abstract painting that captures the raw, organic energy of water in motion. It is an exploration of an ethereal atmosphere, where the boundary between the canvas and the natural world begins to blur. I designed this piece to anchor a space in stillness—to be the “deep breath” in a room that allows the mind to finally go quiet.
The Process: Why I Let the Water Lead
There is a specific magic in the viscosity of paint. Moving away from traditional tools like brushes or palette knives, I bring my original mixed-media works to life through the organic flow of the medium itself. My process is deeply rooted in a lifelong love for water. Water doesn’t force its way; it flows toward the path of least resistance, and I want the pigments in my paintings to do the same.
By layering mixed media and managing the fluid suspension of the paints, the textures within my work emerge naturally. These viscous textures mimic the “bloom” of nature, creating a biophilic connection that resonates with the rhythmic, healing energy of the tides. When you look closely at a piece like Blossom, you aren’t seeing a static image; you are seeing a physical record of a fluid moment in time.
The Alchemy of Color: A Sensory Palette
To reach the depths of tranquility found in my latest series, I utilize a palette that bridges the gap between the earth and the sky. I am often asked how I choose my colors, and the truth is, I don’t choose them as much as I feel them. In Blossom, the transition from pale cerulean and misty whites into shimmering, translucent golds represents the breaking of light through water.
The “viscosity” I mention isn’t just about the thickness of the paint; it’s about the suspension of light. By using high-quality pigments that sit at different weights within the fluid medium, I create a 3D effect where certain colors seem to float above the canvas while others recede into the depths. This creates an “internal glow” that changes throughout the day as the natural light in a room shifts from morning to dusk.
The Personal Breakthrough: A Journey Toward Freedom
There is a secret tucked into the layers of my work that I want to share. While I was creating my recent pieces, my internal mantra was freedom. I was visualizing the removal of weight—the clearing of old stresses, the paying off of burdens, and the arrival of a new, expansive lightness.
I believe that the energy an artist feels in the studio stays trapped within the pigments of the work forever. When I talk about “visualizing it sold,” I am really visualizing the freedom that success brings—not just for me, but for the home that eventually lives with the work. I want my collectors to feel that same release of pressure and that same surge of joy every time they walk past a piece.

Speaking of joy and the power of visualization, I am so incredibly excited to share that one of my recent paintings has officially found its forever home! There is no greater professional milestone than when a collector chooses to invest in your vision and make it a permanent part of their life.
We are delivering Portrait in Blue, acrylic on canvas, 48×48, this Friday, April 4th, and I am already buzzing with anticipation. There is such a great feeling that comes with seeing a work installed into its forever home. As an artist, you spend weeks or months alone with a piece in the studio, and then suddenly, the journey is complete.
Seeing the work transition from my studio walls to its permanent environment is a profound experience. I have so much joy seeing it installed in its new space. It will start its own story bringing its unique energy to my lovely friend and now collector.

When you acquire a piece of fluid art, you are acquiring an atmosphere. To help my collectors get the most out of these large-scale works, I always suggest a few sanctuary tips:
Strategic Lighting: Because of the viscous texture, fluid works love side-lighting to highlight the “flow” lines.
Space to Breathe: Large paintings need negative space. Let the wall act as the frame that allows the painting to expand.
The Meditative Minute: Spend one minute a day standing in front of the work without a phone to let the gaze pull inward.
