This week rally yourself, your friends and family to participate in Giving Tuesday. We recommend contributing to the wonderful I Have a Dream Foundation – Los Angeles where your donation will be matched dollar for dollar through the generous support of the Bascom Group.
What is Giving Tuesday?
On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. 30,000 organizations worldwide have joined the movement.
You can be a assured that Giving Tuesday is a very genuine occasion. Here are some of the people involved with making it happen: Charles Best – CEO, DonorsChoose; Matthew Bishop – The Economist; Kathy Calvin – CEO, UN Foundation; Sharon Feder – Chief Digital Officer, Watch Entertainment & Rachael Ray; Adam Hirsch -Global EVP, Edelman Digital; Beth Kanter; Edward Norton – co-founder Crowdrise; Rob Reich -Professor, Stanford; The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; The Case Foundation.
Here is a video explaining it
Clara Berta and Berta Art Studio are Committed to Giving Back
Clara is so appreciative of her wonderful life surrounded by friends and doing what she loves, creating art! Icing on the cake: appreciative art lovers and interior designers are selecting her art work to buy.
Clara has most recently selected “I Have a Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles to support (she has had the opportunity to see the good work they do up close for the past year). Over the years she has supported other worthy organizations by donating art for their auctions. You can learn more about Clara at Clara Berta Fine Art.
What is I have a Dream Foundation – Los Angeles (IHADLA)?
“I Have a Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles (IHADLA) works to break the cycle of poverty by sponsoring entire classes of 3rd graders in low-income academically at risk schools, working with students for 10 consecutive years through high school graduation and into college. Upon the completion of high school, each student is guaranteed an $8,000 scholarship to be used for college or career training. IHADLA helps inner-city youth who are at risk for school failure to reach their full potential. The sponsored students, who we call “Dreamers”, are not the only ones who benefit from the program; siblings, parents, other students in the school, and local community members also feel the positive impact of IHADLA’s educational and enrichment offerings.
IHADLA works in three different areas throughout the greater Los Angeles area: Inglewood, Watts, and Boyle Heights, all affected by poverty, crime, gangs and violence.
How Can You Help the At Risk Youth of IHADLA?
On Giving Tuesday or at any time of course, you can donate, commit to mentor or volunteer to assist I Have a Dream Foundation – Los Angeles. A popular volunteer activity is tutoring but there are other possibilities that may interest you.
If you don’t live in Los Angeles (therefore you can’t mentor or tutor) and you can’t afford to donate, you can still do something valuable to help these kids. If you follow them on Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIN @IHADLA, like them on Facebook, Circle them on GooglePlus and subscribe to them on YouTube youtube.com/user/ihadlosangeles you are boosting their online visibility which will in turn get them donations and offers to mentor/volunteer from others. So social media is a wonderful gift and very worthy of a #GivingTuesday activity.
Then post on your own social media that you support @IHADLA for #GivingTuesday leading up to and on December 1st. It means a lot.
