Inside My Laguna Beach Creative Sanctuary

Feel the wet sand sink beneath your feet. Listen to the thunderous crash of the waves, and watch the ocean mist melt into the sky.

Welcome to My Laguna Beach Creative Sanctuary!

The dust has officially settled after our Grand Opening night. I am deeply moved by everyone who attended—thank you all for the incredible love and support!

Moving my life to this historic artist colony has opened up an amazing new chapter. The coastal light, shifting marine layers, and terracotta cliffs have completely transformed my daily art practice.

🎨 Exciting Local Milestones

This community has embraced me so quickly, and I am thrilled to dive into local traditions:

  • Rotary Club Guest Speaker: I’m honored to speak at the local Rotary Club meeting tomorrow to share my personal story and artistic journey with my new neighbors.

  • Summer Art Festivals: I just received invitations to the legendary Sawdust Art Festival and Art-A-Fair! Both officially open on June 23rd, and I cannot wait to attend the magical preview night.

🪵 Inside the Studio

If you’ve stepped inside my doors recently, you’ve seen my latest large-scale abstract pieces drying on the walls and spread across work tables.

Every day, I follow a simple ritual:

  1. Turn on my favorite music.

  2. Mix my acrylic paints.

  3. Lose myself in building deep, multi-dimensional textures.

Art is a shared journey. I look around these high walls and realize this space is simply too inspiring to keep to myself. Art shouldn’t just be viewed from a distance on a cold gallery wall—it is meant to be lived, felt, and experienced firsthand.

Stay tuned for details on our upcoming Laguna Beach abstract art classes. I can’t wait to create with you!

The Call of the Coast: Why Laguna Beach is the Ultimate Muse

For over a century, artists have traveled here from all over the world. They seek refuge along this specific stretch of California coast. The early Plein Air painters came for the dramatic cliffs. They fell in love with the unfiltered Pacific light. Today, that legacy lives on. But the artistic expression has expanded far beyond traditional landscapes. As an abstract artist, I find that Laguna Beach demands something unique. It does not ask you to paint exactly what you see. Instead, it demands that you paint how the environment makes you feel.

Abstract art is uniquely suited to the energy of the coast. When you stand on the beach, you are not just looking at water.  Those are not straight lines or simple shapes. Those are textures, movements, and raw emotions.

Inside Clara Berta Studio, located at 332 Forest Ave, I translate those physical sensations into my large-scale canvas work. I use heavy structures and modeling pastes. I apply multi-layered glazes to give abstract form to invisible forces. For me, it is a slow, meditative process. I pour paint, scrape it back, and layer it again. This exact tactile world is what I want to open up to our community. Therefore, I am introducing our new abstract art classes at Laguna Beach.

Riding the Wave of Creative Energy

Let me share a private secret with you. Even as a professional artist, I get scared at times. Fear is a very real part of the creative process. Sometimes, I delay walking into the studio.

Hesitating to enter the studio, I often make excuses to go down to the beach instead. I find myself staring at the massive ocean just to avoid the quiet pressure inside my own mind. Hoewver I am excited to go visit my parents and I will be creating larger-scale works there.

But tonight is different. Tonight, I am feeling a massive surge of driven, high energy. I do not wish to lose this powerful feeling. I am staying up late because I am deeply compelled to create something meaningful right now. When that electric wave of inspiration hits, you must grab your tools and ride it.

What inspires me to push through the fear? Sometimes, it is the wonderful people I meet. Other times, it is the raw power of nature. But most of the time, it is simply my inner energy to succeed. I want to make a genuine difference in someone’s life with my work. Knowing that my art can bring healing to your home is what keeps me standing at the easel late into the night.

The Courage to Change Your Life Story

Making a major change takes real courage. Moving my studio from Los Angeles to the coast was a huge leap of faith. I had to pack up years of history and face the quiet fear of starting over. Yet, I was completely ready for a shift.

But the truth is, I was completely ready for a change as well. Deep down, my soul was calling for this artistic shift. Now, I feel a profound sense of peace. I am so incredibly grateful to finally be in Laguna Beach. I have actually dreamed of living and creating in this beautiful town for 20 years. To see this dream become my daily reality is an absolute miracle.

Because of this journey, I realized that our lives are exactly like a large canvas. Sometimes, a layout is no longer working. Sometimes, the old colors do not match who you are anymore. When that happens, you cannot be afraid to paint over the old layers. You have to trust that the new shapes you create will be stronger.

In my studio, I speak with so many people who feel stuck in their current life story. They are waiting for the perfect time to make a change. I always tell them to start on the canvas first. When you practice making bold, brave moves with paint, you build your internal confidence. You realize you are the true author of your own life. You have the power to create a beautiful, fresh chapter whenever you choose.

Connecting Energy: From My Heart to Your Home

I truly believe that energy never disappears—it simply moves from one place to another.

When I stand at my easel late at night, my raw emotions go directly into the canvas. Every bold scrape of the palette knife holds my drive to succeed, and every wash of color carries my hope to make a positive difference in the world.

Bringing the Energy Home

When you hang a piece of my abstract art in your home, you bring that exact energy into your living space.

  • A Heartfelt Connection: It creates an invisible bond between my creative heart and your daily life.

  • A Silent Reminder: It serves as a visual anchor, reminding you that you can overcome difficult obstacles, too.

Our Creative Classes

Our Laguna Beach abstract art classes operate on this exact same frequency. When we gather in this studio sanctuary, our shared energy multiplies:

  • We support each other through creative struggles.

  • We celebrate sudden artistic breakthroughs together.

You will leave the studio with much more than a finished painting—you leave with a piece of my creative spirit to help you succeed in your own personal goals.

Facing the Fear of the Blank Canvas

A blank canvas can be terrifying. It stares back at you in the quiet studio, silently demanding perfection. Many people freeze because they are afraid of making a mess or failing. Trust me, I know this exact feeling well.

In my studio, we completely change how we look at that space:

  • It is not a test to pass.

  • It is a safe, judgment-free zone.

When you take a deep breath and make that first bold mark, the spell of perfectionism breaks. You quickly realize that a mess is just the first necessary layer of a masterpiece.

From Canvas to Daily Life

Learning to trust the mess on a canvas can truly change your life. It teaches you to:

  • Trust the unpredictable parts of your daily routine.

  • Find the courage to face uncertainty.

The Magic of Abstract Art: It is a playground for your soul. It reminds you that you don’t have to be perfect to create something deeply beautiful.

My Journey with Textures

People often ask why I focus on heavy textures instead of smooth, flat surfaces. The answer goes back to my background in studying psychology and human behavior. I always wanted to understand how we process deep, hidden feelings—and I discovered that textured, mixed-media art was the perfect outlet.

When I apply thick texture paste using palette knives, trowels, and my bare hands, it feels grounded. The physical resistance of the medium allows me to express raw emotional power on a large scale.

  • The Process: I often paint a layer and then move quickly to scrape it back. If a section feels overworked, I will take a towel to lift some of the water and paint away.

  • The Meaning: This represents how we peel back layers in our own lives. We all carry a heavy history beneath our surface, and my paintings reflect that human experience.

The Power of Emotional Release

We all carry a silent weight—whether it’s career stress, heartbreak, health scares, or grief. We try to put on a brave face and think our way out of pain, but our minds get exhausted. Sometimes, your body needs a physical way to release the pressure.

This is where the magic of abstract art comes in. When you hold a heavy tool and press it into thick paint, you use your whole body:

  • Channel Anger: Release it into a sharp, bold scrape across the canvas.

  • Pour Out Sadness: Let it flow into a soft wave of deep indigo blue.

True Healing Happens at the Easel: I have watched students cry tears of relief and laugh with deep joy. When you let your body move, you physically transfer that heavy energy out of your chest and onto the canvas. The art absorbs the weight so you don’t have to carry it alone.

In our Laguna Beach abstract art classes, I can’t wait to share these exact healing methods with you.

Expressing with Colors: Art4Healing® Workshops

Art is my language of healing, passion, and renewal. During difficult life transitions, the canvas was my only safe space. I didn’t have to explain my grief or find the perfect words—because words are often too rigid for our deepest feelings. Colors, however, have no boundaries.

Because I believe so deeply in the therapeutic power of creativity, I am incredibly proud to host official Art4Healing® workshops right here in the studio.

đź“… Join Me for Our Next Class

These specialized classes are profoundly rewarding because they require absolutely no art background or technical skills. We strip away the intimidating rules of traditional art schools and focus entirely on raw intuition.

Using the structured Art4Healing® method, I will guide you through gentle, intentional prompts designed to:

  • Bypass your analytical mind.

  • Use color as a direct mirror of your inner landscape.

  • Give you full permission to express frustration, joy, anxiety, or hope through paint.

Process Over Product: This beautiful, liberating experience is entirely about the healing act of creation, not about making a “perfect” final painting. Come find some peace and healing with me!

What to Expect Inside Our Laguna Beach Abstract Art Classes

When you sign up for a workshop at Clara Berta Studio, you receive a special experience. You are stepping into a fully immersive, working art studio. The atmosphere is always warm and intimate. We intentionally design it to help you decompress from the noise of daily life.

Here is a quick glimpse of the techniques and concepts we explore together at the easel:

  • The Power of Texture: We move far beyond flat paint. I will show you how to work with a professional medium. We will use texture pastes and unique tools to build physical dimension. As a result, your canvas will beg to be touched.

  • Intuitive Color Selection: Do not pick colors just because they “look pretty together.” Instead, you will learn to select palettes based on mood and energy. You will discover how high-contrast tones create tension or harmony.

  • The Art of Letting Go: One of the hardest parts of abstract painting is knowing when to stop. People often worry about making a “mistake.” I will teach you my personal philosophy of scraping back and layering over. Often, unexpected marks become the most beautiful parts of a piece.
